Career
In 1835, Bùi Hữu Nghĩa achieved the highest score in the regional civil service examinations in Gia Định, earning the distinguished title "Thủ Khoa." That title has remained inseparable from his name for nearly two centuries.
He served as a mandarin across multiple provinces, building a reputation as an honest official who genuinely cared about ordinary people. In an era of widespread corruption, his integrity was remarkable.
